I saw the most amazing eel today diving off Lana’i. I didn’t get a photo but here is a scan from the Hoover book. I only saw the top portion of it sticking out of the sand but he stayed with his head poked out in the water for a bit while I sneaked up on him with my one diver I was guiding today. Recently I have been filling in as a SCUBA Instructor guide at Extended Horizons and getting to dive back at my old stomping grounds off Lanai. I got a really good look at this rare sand conger eel with its leopard spots, narrow snout and big black eyes. I had no idea what it was till I looked him up in this book. I have never seen one before but I wonder how many have seen me ;)

So I have been keeping my broken slippers in the hopes of maybe getting a mis matched pair. I am now up to 4 left slippers! Why is it always my right slipper that breaks? More importantly why can’t they make a slipper that doesn’t break?

Cutie pie girls watching two endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals at Mala Ramp. Josh and I went for a quick walk on the beach and stumbled upon these beauties. We sat and watched them for a while just like these little girls. I don’t know the girls they just happened to be there. Every once and a while the monk seals would roll around or sneeze. It was very amusing. There was a volunteer already down there with a rope and signs up so that people wouldn’t bother the seals. That was so fantastic to see the seals getting there rest undisturbed. There are only 1,000 or so of these guys left and their population is still declining from fishing “accidents” and disease.
